Today’s DPD is just the type of thing to help you get your week started right.

Sam Kinison. His comedy was jarring – at the very least. But it was also unique. At a time when 1980s decadence was at its height, Kinison’s brash and incisive flavor of comedy was a sign of things to come in the comedy world.

Kinison was a complex guy. Coming from a family of evangelical preaches Kinison himself pursued the family trade after graduating from Pinecrest Bible Training Center in CT. But that career was short lived and when his first wife left him he began his comedy career. He was first discovered by Rodney Dangerfield and was asked to participate in Dangerfield’s Ninth Annual Young Comedians Special….he later appeared in Dangerfield’s classic Back To School.

Kinison also had an appearance on Married with Children on the episode “It’s a Bundyful Life” (1989). In my opinion, if you were offered a spot on Married with Children… had really made it.

Sam Kinison, 38, Comedian, Dies; Wife Injured in Head-On Collision

Published: April 12, 1992

Sam Kinison, a former tent preacher who gained fame as a shrieking and often insulting stand-up comedian, was killed Friday night in a head-on automobile crash on a desert highway near Needles, Calif.

He was 38 years old and lived in the Hollywood hills in Los Angeles. Continue
