The Invasion Continues – Next Stop….Maine!

No Comments 17 July 2012

Shade Enthusiasts,

The Invasion continues! Shade Enthusiast, Reins Hagglemeyer, took the Invasion to the northern part of this great nation with his visit to Baxter State Park and more specifically Mt. Katahdin in north central Maine (yes…the same Reins Hagglemeyer that won The Shade’s 5k last month. What a manly man).

Hagglemeyer not only extended The Invasion but he also helped keep the staff (and Shade readers) informed with a lengthy, informative report. While bits of the report were smeared with bug spray and peanut butter we were able to make out most of it. In the report he posits:

“The park is a twiddlers dream. There is no electricity, running water, or paved roads. The only traffic you see are the lines for early morning poops at the limited amount of outhouses but if you’re ok with squatting in nature no need to worry”

He went on to say:

“Although named Baxter State Park the park is privately owned. The land was donated by ex-Maine Governor Percival Baxter whom was an outdoor enthusiast. Baxter also loved his Irish Setter – Garry Owen, hated the Ku Klux Klan and preferred his PB&J’s with no crust”

Reins the report is much appreciated and your certificate is in the mail.

To those of you out there out of the shade, try to get into it – its cooler here than in the sun. And if you do happen to wander in (by mistake or otherwise) let us know about it.

The Shade Gaspee Day Invasion: A Review and Vote on Best Finish!

1 Comment 11 June 2012

Despite the videos below we all made it through safe and sound. After having a brief chat with the Chairman of the Gaspee Day Festival board he mentioned that he very much appreciated the much needed ‘coolness’ The Shade Invasion brought to the table. Mr. Chairman it was a pleasure. The Shade staff had a great time and the bags of Cheez-Curls were much appreciated.

A special acknowledgement is called for with Reins Hagglemeyer. Reins rolled out of bed and across the finish line in a trim 23 minutes and 30 seconds for ultimate victory in The Shade’s first ever Run & Punch Gala. Reins, your trophy is en route.

Please review the below finishes and vote on your favorite Run & Punch. The winner gets to run another 5k and receive another punch.

*special thanks to The Shade’s #1 fan Stephen “Pillow Hands” Lytle for providing a non-threatening option for getting punch.

Option 1 – Rayburn Schletz

Option 2 – Norman P. Orlando

Option 3 – Reins Hagglemeyer

The Shade Invasion Begins!

No Comments 07 June 2012

Beautiful People,

The Invasion has begun!

Much like our namesake the shade can appear predictably or unpredictably. It can occur in the shadow of a decrepit apartment building between 3-3:15 in the afternoon or behind a rather large human.

It happens and when it does it brings relief. Always.

We maintain this desire for relief here at The Shade. As such, we’re starting the invasion. Bring the coolness righteousness of the shade where ever you go.

The Shade HQ staff invaded the New England Aquarium this week. It was amazing, shocking, educational, terrifying and a few of the penguins might need to get re-aligned. However, everyone that experienced the invasion feels better now. Fact.

Our invasion continues this weekend into the depths of Americana (more on that later) and we encourage you to extend the coolness and let us know about it. Homemade signs and ambivalence are encouraged. If you happen to take a picture please send it to getintotheshade@gmail.com but if you don’t, that’s cool too.
