Dead Person of the day – November 13 – John Balance

No Comments 13 November 2012

Folks,

We’ve got a bit of an oddball here. Brilliant, brooding and all around prickly Balance wrote some pretty righteous avante garde music in the UK throughout the 1980s and early 90s. His bands include Coil, Nurse with Wound, Psychic TV, Current 93 and Thighpaulsandra (which produced some interesting Nine Inch Nails remixes.

He attended a UK boarding school as a lad and was eventually diagnosed with schizophrenia and spent time in a mental hospital. He took solace in Aleister Crowley’s works, poking himself with relatively blunt objects and, as “Scabmental”, writing a fanzine.

Believe you me, I took a deep dive into Coil and some of Balance’s other work for the NOR Monday morning staff meeting and it really released my valve. I recommend poking around his repertoire.

Start it up with an obit!
