Dead Person of the Day – February 7 – Chris Rios (Big Pun)

0 Comments 07 February 2013

Folks,

The subject of today’s DPD is Christopher Rios, most of us remember him as Big Pun. Big Pun wasn’t just a clever name. He weighed a whisker under 700 lbs. when he was brought to the hospital after he complained about trouble breathing.

In the mid 1990’s Pun made a name for himself among the growing ranks of Latino rappers – particularly in NYC. He was also known for making Puerto Rican women simultaneously want to eat a Reuben and booty dance.

At the height of his success he sold more than a million albums, was nominated for a Grammy and his album ”Capital Punishment” was the first platinum album by a solo Latino rapper.

Christopher Rios, a 698-pound rapper who sold more than a million albums under the name Big Pun, died on Monday. He was 28. He described his style as ”sophisticated hard-core,” – which is the same way I describe how I approach all-you-can-eat buffets.

Mr. Rios had been a boxer and basketball player as a teenager but then took to overeating until, he once said, he couldn’t tie his shoelaces. I’d say at that point you know you have a problem.

In remembrance of Pun, stuff your mouth full of this obit.
