Dead Person of the Day December 12 – Peter Boyle

Mr. Boyle is just the type of great American actor that falls through the cracks when the critics shine their light on American film history. The NOR is happy to give Peter Boyle his due credit.

A few things to note with today’s entry. Number one – great cameo by John Lennon as best man in Boyle’s wedding eh? Number two – what a career by this guy: In the traveling troupe of Neil Simon’ Odd Couple, part of the Second City Ensemble AND spent 3 years in a monastery (and its just the tip of the iceberg. Simply amazing. Lastly, how bad would you like to be in the back seat of that car?! Lets do it!

Peter Boyle, who left the life of a monk to study acting and went on to become one of the most successful character actors of his time in films like “The Candidate,” “Young Frankenstein” and “Monster’s Ball,” then capped his career with a long stint as the meddlesome father on the hit sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond,” died Tuesday evening in Manhattan.
