Ask Norman…Despair in Dartmouth

0 Comments 10 November 2011

Dear Norm,

I think I’ve got a case of the winter blues. Last week I had to scrape ice off my car in the morning before work for the first time. My lips are chapped! I leave my window open at night when I sleep and wake up with an ice cold nose. Its been too cold to walk my cat in twilight (one of my favorite post work pastimes). When outside I can see my breath (which has always given me a feeling of unsettlement since a young age) and now with daylight savings there’s a bleakness spreading its arms, yawning and enveloping my life. How do I kick the winter blues’ butt?

In despair in Dartmouth, NH

Despair,

Listen amigo, we’ve all been there. I just did a load of laundry last week and lost three socks. So, believe me, sadness is a stench I wear often. But the best thing you can do is….snap out of it! Buy a mock turtleneck. Eat a plum. Listen to a Delfonics album in a pair of corduroys. For pete’s sake take your feline for a walk! It won’t kill him/her. Thanks for writing.

Norm.
